Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission? In the face of seemingly overwhelming challenges on a national and global level, it is heartening to be able to have a positive impact on a local and tangible level. Serving in this quasi-governmental role also provides a considerable learning opportunity to better understand how a municipality functions, as well as how a small group of dedicated individuals can affect the leadership priorities of their community.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board? I enjoy the challenges and rewards of throwing down hard with a group of compassionate, capable community members, who represent a variety of perspectives and interests, and who are all striving to improve the community we love.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham? For me, home is always about people. I feel fortunate to have been born and raised in this special place on earth in which many of the humans, who I most love, respect and find humor with, choose to call home.
