Posted on: August 1, 2022[ARCHIVED] August 2022 Spotlight

The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
rakeem chambers in the historic preservation Commission
Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
I encourage all Durham residents to become engaged. A true community is a collaborative effort of many backgrounds and beliefs furthering the quality of life for all of humanity.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
I enjoy encouraging the preservation of history in Durham while becoming it myself. The overall processes of the HPC board alongside the community connection is the best part; our connection to residents keeps us all solution driven on keeping Durham a great city.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
My favorite part of living in the "Bull City" is the Entrepreneurial spirit that exists from block to block. Whether visiting the Fayetteville Corridor or Ninth Street sector of our city, the love & support we have for our local businesses is top tier. Durham wouldn't be Durham to me without Ty's tire shop off Cornwallis, Pelicans snow cone on Fayetteville, Devil's Pizzeria and International-Delights on Ninth street. I've experienced the best of Durham at these locations.
