A new partnership will allow us to help train low-income residents for jobs in the construction industry as well as provide assistance for our affordable housing efforts. The City Council has approved an agreement with the North Carolina Home Builders Association and the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency for the North Carolina Construction Training Partnership. Through the partnership, two training classes with eight students each will be offered over the next 12 months for a total of 16 students. Each class will run for eight weeks and will include a combination of classroom theory and hands-on construction training. We will use Dedicated Housing Funds to pay $71,400 for the training program, and the Housing Finance Agency will provide us with $65,000 in funds that can be used to support affordable housing construction. Construction training was envisioned to be part of our Forever Home, Durham affordable housing program, so this partnership will help us achieve at least part of that goal.
