The below notice was sent on July 25 via email to residents in Forest Hills who reached out to the City following the controlled burn on July 14:
Forest Hill Community residents:
Earlier today, members of the Fire Department, the City’s Risk Management Division, City Attorney’s Office, NC Department of Health and Human Services, and the Durham County Public Health Department met at the burn site and walked through the neighborhood. We appreciate those residents who came out and briefly spoke with us. Based on what was observed, we believe we are on the right course to address your concerns.
Thank you to those of you that have already responded with consent for the City of Durham and/or the City’s contractor to access your property for cleanup. If you have not yet replied with your consent and wish for your property to be inspected and cleaned up as needed, please respond as soon as possible this week.
We have partnered with Matrix Health & Safety Consultants to perform lead testing of the controlled burn debris found on private property. Once the laboratory results are received, Matrix will provide us with recommendations for cleanup based on their findings. Matrix may be in contact with you directly to take samples from your property later this week. If you are not contacted by Matrix regarding testing, you will still be included in the clean-up initiative once it is established.
We appreciate your patience, and we will continue to keep you updated as this process moves forward.
