[ARCHIVED] November Spotlight: Matthew Ruterbories

Matthew

The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:

MATTHEW RUTERBORIES, AUDIT SERVICES OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

1.       Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?

I've found my service on the Audit Services Oversight Committee to be particularly rewarding.  Learning about all of the City's functions, getting the chance to share my own perspectives and expertise, and feeling that I am making an impact within my community are all reasons that I enjoy the work.  I'd encourage any citizen who wants to grow personally, give back, and learn more about this great community to apply to serve on a board, committee or commission.

 2.      What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?

I'm constantly amazed by the degree of knowledge, professionalism, and care that the City's civil servants demonstrate in our ASOC meetings.  The ASOC is unique in that we get to hear from about many different aspects of the City's operations, and consider Audit Services' and City leaders' recommendations on enhancing those operations.  I learn something new about the City during each of these meetings, and always walk away wowed by my interactions with department leaders.  Being part of a committee dedicated to making our city a better place to live energizes me.

3.      What is your favorite part about living in Durham?

Durham's people are what make it great.  I tend to find that others from Durham are down-to-earth, always willing to help, and care deeply about the place they live.
