Lakewood Avenue Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project Construction Look Ahead – Upcoming Road Closure

Roxboro Street will have continued lane closures between Hillside Ave and Morehead Ave for approximately 4 to 5 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installations.
Lakewood Avenue will be closed with detours between Mangum Street and Roxboro Street for approximately 2 to 3 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installations.
Additional information about the work and planned impacts are described below.
Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:
- Week of 9/18:
- Lane closures and shifts along University Drive / Lakewood Avenue near the Duke Street intersection and W Lakewood Ave intersections.
- Road closure in Lakewood Avenue between Mangum Street and Roxboro Street.
- Lane shifts in Roxboro Street between Hillside Avenue and Morehead Avenue.
- Week of 9/25:
- Lane closures and shifts along University Drive / Lakewood Avenue near the Duke Street intersection and W Lakewood Ave intersections.
- Road closure in Lakewood Avenue between Mangum Street and Roxboro Street.
- Lane shifts in Roxboro Street between Hillside Avenue and Morehead Avenue.
- Future Week(s):
- Lane closures and shifts along University Drive / Lakewood Avenue near the Duke Street intersection and W Lakewood Ave intersections.
- The Lakewood Avenue road closure is anticipated to remain in place for approximately 2-3 months.
- The Roxboro Street lane shifts are anticipated to remain in place for approximately 4-5 months.
Bicycle Lane and Sidewalk impacts will occur as follows:
- Portions of the sidewalk along University Drive near the Duke Street and W Lakewood Ave intersections will have temporary closures.
- Portions of the sidewalk near work areas along Lakewood Ave and Roxboro Street will have temporary closures.
Saturday and Sunday – September 16-17, 2023:
- A sanitary sewer bypass will be used to accommodate sewer installation.
- Pumps and piping with on-site observation will be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Noise levels in accordance with the City noise ordinance are anticipated.
Week of September 18, 2023:
- Lane closures and shifts along University Drive / Lakewood Avenue near the Duke Street intersection and W Lakewood Ave intersections will be in place to accommodate sanitary sewer installation.
- Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
- W Lakewood Ave between University Drive and Duke Street will be closed.
- Temporary pavement markings will be installed to shift traffic lanes along University Drive.
- Sanitary sewer installations will and continue along a cross country corridor outside of Lakewood Ave.
- Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during daytime work hours.
- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
- A sanitary sewer bypass will be used to accommodate this phase of sewer installation. Pumps and piping with on-site observation will be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Lakewood Avenue will be closed between Mangum St and Roxboro St to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation.
- Traffic control signs and markings will be used a detour of traffic along Lakewood Avenue.
- Northbound traffic will be detoured using Blackwell St, Morehead Ave, and the Mangum Roxboro Connector.
- Southbound traffic will be detoured using Roxboro St, Jackie Robinson Dr, and Mangum St.
- Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area.
- Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
- Roxboro Street lane shifts will be implemented between Hillside Ave and Morehead Ave to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation.
- Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts. Northbound Roxboro St traffic will be maintained.
- Temporary pavement markings will be installed to shift traffic lanes along Roxboro St.
- Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area.
- Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.

- W Lakewood Ave between University Drive and Duke Street will be closed.

- Lane closures and shifts along University Drive / Lakewood Avenue near the Duke Street intersection and W Lakewood Ave intersections will remain in place to accommodate sanitary sewer installation.
- Lakewood Avenue will remain closed for approximately 2 to 3 months between Mangum St and Roxboro St to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation.
- Additional closures of Lakewood Avenue between Duke Street and Mangum Street will be required in coming months. Further details about this phase of work will be provided in the future.
- Roxboro Street lane shifts will remain in place for 4 to 5 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation.
