Holt School Road Park Has a New Look
Durham Parks and Recreation Hosts an Event to Celebrate the Improvements

Durham, NC – On Thursday, August 27, Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) will host an event to celebrate the improvements made to Holt School Road Park (4102 Holt School Road). The event will be held at the park from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Early this year Durham was selected as a winner of the national Parks Build Community campaign and received a $20,000 grant to enhance Holt School Road Park. The Parks Build Community helps to revitalize and restore local parks and park programs across the country.

In early August, a host of volunteers and DPR staff worked together to complete the renovations. The work included adding a nature inspired play element, installing new elements and expanding and re-grooming the interpretive trail. The expansion of the trail will allow this space to become an outdoor classroom for the school next door when teaching environmental stewardship.

Holt School Road Park was one of 15 projects nationwide selected to receive the grant. The park that is cherished by the neighborhood had old playground equipment that included an old slide and a bland rocker with little life left. The park now has a host of new and unique play elements.

The grant was made possible by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and The Walt Disney Company, including Disney Citizenship, Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN.
