A WORD FROM WANDA
Celebrating the Holidays Together
We are in the season of celebrations, and we invite you to come join us as we head into the holiday season – with bells on.
As you have hopefully recovered from any lingering Thanksgiving drowsiness, we are kicking things into gear with several holiday events over the next couple of weeks.
We flip the calendar to December and start the festivities with a fun event for our four-legged family members. You can bring your canine friend to meet Santa at Santa Paws! The event will also include a canine ugly sweater contest, canine food drive, and more.
I also want to give a shoutout to our Parks and Recreation (DPR) team for organizing the Senior Holiday Party on December 1. This year’s event is sold out! If you missed a chance for the Senior Holiday Party, DPR is also hosting the inaugural Ugly Sweater Holiday Party for those aged 55 and over on December 19.
Come join us on December 2 for the Downtown Durham Holiday Tree Lighting from 5 – 9 p.m. There will be music and other performances leading up to the lighting of the tree at CCB Plaza. Urban Ministries of Durham will also be holding a food drive during the event for shelf-stable, non-perishable items.
And on December 9 we’ll hold the Holiday Parade on Main Street through downtown! The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., and we’re excited for you to see this year’s lineup. If you are interested in volunteering at the parade, DPR is still looking for volunteers for various roles.
If you are not able to make it to any of these events, I invite you to come downtown to take in the festive atmosphere with holiday decorations around town. Also, as a reminder, we have many wonderful local businesses that can help you complete your shopping list this year!
We are excited to start celebrating the holidays with you across the Bull City.
Until next time,
— City Manager Wanda Page
