Durham’s New Comprehensive Plan UpdateDurham is working on a new Comprehensive Plan, a long-range vision for our community! The Comprehensive Plan decides what can be built where in Durham. While engagement for the first draft of the Place Type Map has closed, you can still view an archived Place Type Map with resident comments and send us your thoughts in an open comment box until March 1. Like with previous rounds of outreach, staff is working on an Engagement Summary, so you can see how we engaged, who we heard from, and what residents said. Staff is also working on making updates to the map based on all the feedback and technical corrections we've received so far. Another important piece of the Comprehensive Plan are the draft Policies. To make the Community Goals and Objectives of the Comprehensive Plan a reality in Durham, we need to write recommendations on how to achieve them. Policy Working Groups are groups of residents and staff working together to come up with initial recommendations that could be included in the Comprehensive Plan. These initial policy recommendations will then be shared with the Durham community for input this Spring 2022.
