Amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) There are two pending text amendments to the UDO that are still in process that have not yet been scheduled for Planning Commission or Governing Body review at this time, they are listed below: - Planning Commission-Initiated Text Amendment is centered around the ways in which development can connect people: connections between streets, people, bicycles, and other forms of mobility
- Privately-Initiated Text Amendment is centered around simplifying the ordinance to allow for more affordable development to be built in Durham. This was developed and submitted by a group of practitioners from the private field that does not include staff.

Durham’s New Comprehensive Plan UpdateDurham is working on a new Comprehensive Plan, a long-range vision for our community! The Comprehensive Plan decides what can be built where in Durham. Tell us what you think of the draft policies for the new Comprehensive Plan now through June 30! We want to hear from you! Engagement on the policy recommendations that will be part of the new Comprehensive Plan has begun. To make the Community Goals and Objectives of the Comprehensive Plan a reality in Durham, we have drafted policy recommendations on how to achieve them. These policies have been drafted by teams of staff and community members, including youth, over the last several months. Your input will inform changes to these policies before the drafts are finalized later this year.

Text Amendments - Omnibus 17 (TC2100006): This text amendment proposes technical revisions and minor policy changes to various provisions of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The amendments are identified as necessary corrections, clarifications, re-organization, or other minor changes to clarify the intent of the regulations or codify interpretations of regulations, or reflect minor policy changes, some of which are not solely technical in nature. Additionally, certain proposed changes are a result of recently adopted state legislation.
Zoning Map Changes- South Alston Avenue (Z2000019) is a request to change the zoning from Office and Institutional (OI) within the Major Transportation Corridor (MTC) Overlay to Planned Development Residential 15.371 (PDR 15.371) within the Major Transportation Corridor (MTC) Overlay. A change in the Future Land Use Map from Office and Recreation/Open Space to Medium-High Density Residential and Recreation/Open Space is associated with this request located at 4354 South Alston Avenue.
- Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (Z2100004) is a request to change the zoning from Commercial Neighborhood (CN) and Residential Suburban-10 (RS-10) to Commercial Neighborhood with a Development Plan (CN(D)). The Board of County Commissioners will hold a meeting on June 27, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., 2nd floor, Commissioners' Meeting Room, Durham County Administration I, 200 E. Main Street.
No items will be presented by the City-County Planning Department.
Residents who wish to participate in meetings are encouraged to continue using the virtual option due to social distancing guidelines still in place inside the Board Chambers, located in the Durham County Administration Building I, 200 E. Main St. While social distancing will be established with seat arrangements, in-person attendees are reminded of the benefits of masking while in indoor spaces populated by others. There is no sign-up sheet or request form to attend meetings, however, it is important to note that there are very limited seating options. The ability to attend the meeting will be based on first come/first serve. Seating priority will be given to County staff. A low-capacity overflow seating area is in the lobby on the second floor of Administration Building I. Individuals seated in the lobby can view the meeting on screens.
