There are two pending text amendments to the UDO that are still in process and that have not yet been scheduled for Planning Commission or Governing Body review at this time, they are listed below: - Planning Commission-Initiated Text Amendment is centered around the ways in which development can connect people: connections between streets, people, bicycles, and other forms of mobility
- Privately-Initiated Text Amendment is centered around simplifying the ordinance to allow for more affordable development to be built in Durham. This was developed and submitted by a group of practitioners from the private field that does not include staff.

Durham’s New Comprehensive Plan UpdateDurham is working on a new Comprehensive Plan, a long-range vision for our community! The Comprehensive Plan decides what can be built where in Durham.
Engagement Summary for the draft Policies During the Spring and Summer of 2022, hundreds of residents shared their input on the first draft of the Policies. Through our Engagement Ambassadors, focus group discussions, and our online engagement, we heard a lot about what you need more of or want less of in your neighborhoods. We also heard suggestions for how to improve, clarify, or change the policies to more accurately reflect resident needs and priorities. You can take a look at all of the input from residents here.

What's Next? Planning staff is currently drafting policy revisions, as well as developing action items for the policies based on community input and ideas generated from the Policy Working Groups.
Once the revisions are complete, we will combine all the plan components into the full Comprehensive Plan draft and share it with the community this winter. We will hold a final phase of engagement on the full plan before beginning the public hearing and adoption process with the Planning Commission.

Durham City CouncilMonday, October 17, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. In-Person and Virtual Session The Durham City Council will hold in-person and virtual public hearings on October 17, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 1st Floor, 101 City Hall Plaza, to hear the following requests:
Street Closing - Water Street Closing (SC2200001) is a request to permanently close Water Street.
Annexations - Kemp Road Residential (BDG2000022) located at 4901, 4902, 5501 Kemp Road and 1862 Southview Road, is a request for a voluntary noncontiguous annexation of four parcels of land totaling 279.68 acres.
- Courtyards at Doc Nichols II (BDG2200002) located at the Southwest Quadrant at intersection of Kinard Road and Doc Nichols Road, 1911 Panoramic Drive, 5007 Lazywood Lane, and 1706 Doc Nichols Road, is a request for a voluntary contiguous annexation of four parcels of land totaling 77.629 acres.
Zoning Map Change - South Alston (Z2000019) located at 4354 South Alston Avenue, is a request to change the zoning from Office and Institutional (OI) to Planned Development Residential 15.371 (PDR 15.371).
- 4214 Fayetteville Road (Z2100022) located at 4214 Fayetteville Road, is a request to change the zoning from Residential Suburban-20 (RS-20) to Office and Institutional with a Development Plan (OI(D)) and a proposed change of the Future Land Use Map designation from Low Density Residential to Office.
- Kemp Road Subdivision (Z2000040) located at 4901, 4902, 5501 Kemp Road and 1862 Southview Road, is a request to change the zoning from Residential Rural (RR), County jurisdiction, to Planned Development Residential 3.160 (PDR 3.160), City jurisdiction, and a proposed change of the Future Land Use Map designation from Very Low Density Residential and Recreation/Open Space to Low Density Residential and Recreation/Open Space.

No cases will be presented by City-County Planning Residents who wish to participate in meetings are encouraged to continue using the virtual option due to social distancing guidelines still in place inside the Board Chambers, located in the Durham County Administration Building I, 200 E. Main Street. While social distancing will be established with seat arrangements, in-person attendees are reminded of the benefits of masking while in indoor spaces populated by others. There is no sign-up sheet or request form to attend meetings, however, it is important to note that there are very limited seating options.
