- Improving Access and Walkability (TC2100007) proposes revisions to the requirements within the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to improve access and walkability in Durham. Last summer, the Durham Planning Commission initiated a text amendment with the goal of making a more connected community. Specifically, the amendment includes updates to the existing connectivity ratio that ensures developers are providing sufficient road and pedestrian networks within new developments and adequately connecting to adjacent areas or neighborhoods. The amendment also includes a new block length component which limits the allowed length of the streets or street blocks that developer can build to help ensure our communities are built to human scale, closely connected, and walkable.
