The Board of County Commissioners will hold public hearings on June 12, 2023, at the meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Chambers, 2nd Floor, Durham County Administration I, 200 E. Main Street.
No cases will be presented by the Planning Department.
Public Participation: Residents may attend in person, via Zoom, or watch live on the County’s website and on DTN. Seating is limited inside the Chambers due to social distancing guidelines, and is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority given to County staff. A low-capacity overflow seating area is provided in the lobby on the second floor of the Administration Building. Individuals seated in the lobby can view the meeting on screens. Residents who wish to observe meetings are encouraged to continue using the virtual option.
Residents may deliver comments on agenda items for the meeting in person or virtually. Please refer to the following web page for ways to participate: Commissioner Meetings. The Zoom meeting link will be posted during the week before the scheduled meeting.
All Board of County Commissioner meetings and other Durham County content are available for viewing on the Durham County YouTube Channel. Rebroadcasts of the meeting are available on the Durham Television Network on Spectrum Channel 8, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, Google Fiber Channel 8, and Frontier Communications Channel 70. On-demand video may be watched once it is uploaded to the County's website.

Joint City-County Committee
Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
In-Person Session
The Joint City-County Committee will hold an in-person meeting on June 13, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in the Second Floor Committee Room, City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza.
The Planning Department staff will present an information item regarding the adoption process for the new Comprehensive Plan. The presentation will be similar to presentations that will be shared in future Joint City-County Planning Committee and governing body work session meetings. Public comment will be received at Planning Commission, City Council, and Board of County Commissioner public hearings between now and August 31, 2023. Read more information and review the plan here! The Durham Planning Commission will hold in-person and virtual public hearings on June 13, 2023, at the meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 1st Floor, 101 City Hall Plaza, to hear the following:
Zoning Map Changes:
- Sagebrook (Z2200019) is a request to change the zoning from Residential Rural (RR) to Planned Development Residential 6.943 (PDR 6.943) located at 2553 Chadwick Place and 2530 and 2528 Burton Road.
- Fairhaven Walk (Z2200044) is a request to change the zoning from Residential Suburban-8 (RS-8), Residential Suburban-20 (RS-20) to Planned Development Residential 23.445 (PDR 23.445) located at 313 Old Oxford Road.
- Cortez Drive Townhomes (Z2200040) is a request to change the zoning from Residential Suburban-20 (RS-20) to Planned Development Residential 6.003 (PDR 6.003) located at 1003, 1011, 1152, 1164, 1268, and 1015 Cortez Drive, and 3607, 3611, 3617, and 3615 Angier Ave.
- Brier Creek ACT (Z2200020) is a request to change the zoning from Residential Rural (RR) to Planned Development Residential 13.367 (PDR 13.367) located at 3618, 3620, 3702, 3708, and 3802 Page Road.
- Shannon at Old Chapel Hill (Z2200039) is a request to change the zoning from Residential Suburban-10 (RS-10) and Residential Suburban-8 (RS-8) to Residential Suburban Multifamily with a development plan (RS-M(D)) located at 3641 Shannon Road and 3638 Old Chapel Hill Road.

UDO Text Amendment:
- Community Wastewater Systems (TC2200007) is a privately initiated text amendment to revise the requirements within the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) related to community wastewater systems.
Other Planning Item:
- Comprehensive Plan The Planning Commission will consider making a recommendation on the adoption of the new Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan guides what should be built where in Durham. It guides what size and kind of homes should be built in what part of the City and County, where schools and businesses should be built, and where streets should run through. The new Comprehensive Plan includes Community Goals and Objectives, Policies, and a Place Type Map.
