Election Signs Permitted

Based on the election schedule, political signs may be placed in the City of Durham city limits right-of-way beginning July 23, 2019.  All signs associated with the election must be removed from the right-of-way on November 22, 2019, by 5:00 p.m.

The Durham City-County Planning Commission will hold public hearings on October 15, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 1st Floor, 101 City Hall Plaza, to consider the following:

Plan Amendment

  • Forest Hills (A1800004): A request to change the future land use designation for the area bounded by Kent Street and Shoreham Street to the west; Stuart Drive, Summit Street, and South Roxboro Street to the south; American Tobacco Trail to the east; and East Forest Hills Plaza, Wells Street, and Bivins Street to the north, from Medium Density Residential (MDR, 6–12 DU/acre) to Low–Medium Density Residential (LMDR, 4–8 DU/acre or less) and Low Density Residential (LDR, 4 DU/acre or less). If zoned RS-20 or RS-10, change MDR to LDR; if zoned RS-8, RS-M, RU-5, or RU-5(2), change MDR to LMDR. (No change from Recreation Open Space (ROS)). In addition, change the development tier from Urban to Suburban.

Zoning Map Changes   

  • 1001 Olive Branch Road (Z1800015): A request to change the zoning from Residential Rural (RR), Falls/Jordan Watershed Protection Overlay District-B (F/J-B), County Jurisdiction to Planned Development Residential 2.944 (PRD 2.944), Falls/Jordan Watershed Protection Overlay District-B (F/J-B), City Jurisdiction.
  • 1612 Carpenter Fletcher Road (Z1900017): A request to change the zoning from Office Institutional (OI) to Commercial General with a Text-Only Development Plan (CG(D)).

The case planners will be in the City Council Chambers, located on the first floor of City Hall at 101 City Hall Plaza, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

UDO Text Amendment
  • Tree  and Landscape Revisions (TC1800005): Amendments to tree coverage and landscape/buffer requirements in Article 4, Zoning Districts; Articles 8; Environmental Protection, Article 9, Landscaping and Buffering; Article 17, Definitions; and other associated sections.

Annexation Petition

  • High Fox Annexation (BDG1900003): A voluntary annexation petition to annex two contiguous parcels totaling 1.878 acres located 1106 and 1107 High Fox Drive.
Zoning Map Changes
  • High Fox Annexation (Z1900040A): A request to change the zoning from Residential Rural (RR, County Jurisdiction) to Residential Rural (RR, City Jurisdiction).
  • Case LD1900001: A request submitted by Greystar for partial repeal of local landmark designation for Brodie L. Duke Warehouse, removing parking lot from existing designation. The property is located at 321 Liggett Street. PIN 0821-89-12-5077, PID 225826.

Based on the City’s Equitable Community Engagement Blueprint, ENGAGEDurham is a pilot initiative to coordinate engagement efforts between City/County Planning, City Transportation, City Neighborhood Improvement Services, and City General Services Departments. This pilot will be a multi-year engagement process to influence outcomes for a variety of projects, including our new Comprehensive Plan, new County Transit Plan, the Belt Line trail, the Move Durham study, the Third Fork Creek Trail extension, and the R. Kelly Bryant Bridge Trail.
