How can we minimize confusion with water line IDs if each line requires an ID number, even at every tee cross/transition? Also, do these water lines have to be stationed?
We are not requiring that you put the ID on the plans or CAD files only in the data files.
The digital submission standards do not require them to be stationed. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.

1.
We are assuming that any as-built submittal on or after July 1, 2007 shall adhere to the new requirements. Is this correct?
Yes any new as-built submittals on or after July 1, 2007 will adhere to the new requirements. What this means is that you would submit the paper copies as you normally would but you would not submit the digital submission (PDFs, CAD files, data files) until you submit the mylar as-builts. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
2.
Water main locations after paving is in place can only be within a tolerance of 3 feet or so. Is this acceptable to the city?
No, 3 feet or so is not acceptable, we have discussed this internally and it is our consensus that plus or minus two feet is a reasonable request. Additionally, bends in the water mains will be very hard to determine, especially if they are less than 45 degrees.
Currently we are getting location information on our as-builts as to these features and believe that it is possible to determine their location plus or minus 2 feet. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
3.
If we are to give coordinates and an ID for each gate valve, hydrant, manhole, etc., why should we also have to give 2 dimensions to each on the as-built drawings? This seems to be redundant.
The reason why were are asking for this information in 2 forms is because we need 1 in absolute terms (for GIS purposes) and one in relative terms (for field maintenance personnel). Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
4.
5.
We are assuming that for "as-built date" we can use the same date for all items and use the submittal date. Is this okay?
Yes, this is an acceptable assumption. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
6.
For water meters and cleanouts in single family subdivisions we may not know the street address for each lot. Can we assume that the lot number will suffice for all submittals?
The plats have the addressing information on them. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
7.
For multi-family sites, are we required to locate and ID every cleanout from the main to the building?
Yes, you are required to locate and ID every cleanout from the main to the building. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
8.
In Storm Water Structures, you indicate that 2 dimensions are required for each structure, unless it is circular. Should we field measure each box, or give the dimensions from the standard details?
This was required in an earlier version, but we are not requiring that now, as of June 1, 2007. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
9.
In your requirements you are requesting that the files be separate for each utility (water, sewer, stormwater), will you accept them in 1 file?
We will accept them in 1 file only if you create a new field named UtilityType populated with a letter to distinguish what utility group it belongs to (e.g. W, SS, SW) so we can separate them ourselves after they are submitted. Please call 919-560-4326 for more information.
