1. What type of information does the Durham Career Center examine when approving potential service providers?

Please provide answers for the following questions: Are instructors already in place? Is the curriculum registered? If training is conducted at a school, does it have accreditation? Is the facility ADA accessible and located in Durham? Is there a local need for this type of training? Is the program industry recognized?

2. What if my training is more than $4,500 per person or longer than 1 year?

Depending on program cost, individuals participating in your program will be funded through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

3. Why do training providers get a maximum of 5 referrals?

This rule only applies to programs that have been eligible within our system less than 1 year. It is important for us to verify the success of training programs prior to referring too many individuals.

4. What is the process for individuals to utilize the training programs?

It takes approximately 3-4 weeks for an individual to receive a list of potential training providers from their statement of initial interest. During this 3-4 weeks, the individual will establish goals with a counselor and pass and assessment test. Orientations to available programs at the center will occur after which they receive training provider options.
